7 Important settings to do after installing wordpress successfully


Have you tried WordPress? WordPress is one of the best content management system.

By using WordPress you can create a website in less than 30 mins with just drag and drop page builder and manage the theme content.

But make sure all the inner setting of WordPress are correct. Here in this article, I will tell you 7 important settings you should check after installing WordPress.

So let’s start.

1. Delete all default unnecessary pages and posts

After installing WordPress, this is the no. 1 setting you should take care of. You need to check and delete all unnecessary pages and posts from WordPress admin.

Not only can they put extra load on your WordPress database also they take their own WordPress URL. So you cannot create another page with the same URL.

So it would be better to just delete them.

For deleting default pots just log in to your WordPress admin dashboard. Go to Posts>>All Posts and delete default posts for example “Hello world!”

For deleting default pages just go to Pages>>All Pages and delete default pages like “sample-page”.

2. Set WordPress custom permalink

This is the second and important step. You need to set your WordPress custom permalinks based on your (OR client) requirement.

Default permalink structure is something like http://yoursite.com/?p=123

This is totally wrong and unnecessary in terms of SEO. This URL is not SEO friendly. Your site will never get such decent traffic using these types of links. So you need to generate your custom permalink which best suit your WordPress site structure.

You need to change your permalink structure and for this, you need to go to Settings>>Permalinks, choose an option and set your permalink.

3. Set your WordPress website time zone

In future, whenever you create new posts, pages or any custom posts, your time and date posted will be shown under the post title. So you need to be careful setting time zone of your WordPress site.
For setting time zone you just need to go to Settings >> General

At bottom, you will see “Timezone” set your timezone there.

 

4. Site title and tagline

This is another very important setting you need to take care. Your site title shows as a “meta title” of your WordPress website home page. And your “Tagline” will be shown as “meta description” of your website home page. Your site title also tells your visitors what type of site is this all about.

This is also very necessary settings in terms of SEO. You should add your site title and tagline. For this, you just need to go to Settings >> General

Enter your “Site Title” and “Tagline” there.

 

5. Disable User Registration in WordPress

If your website is not a membership website, means you are not allowing other people to come and register to your website. you need to keep this setting disable.

For this just go Settings >> general settings page. And check “Membership” setting and uncheck “Anyone can register” setting.

By doing you are not allowing other people to register and become a member of your website.
This step can also be good as WordPress website security.

 

6. Don’t forget to check WordPress Discussion/Comments Settings

Just go to setting >> Discussion. And change all the settings according to your website requirement.

For example, if you have a WordPress blog then you might want that people comments on your new articles but if you have a business website then you might don’t want that people comments on your new articles.
So you can manage these settings the way you want.

 

7. Delete all unused WordPress themes and plugins

After installing and setting up WordPress just delete all unnecessary theme and plugins which you don’t need further.
After installing WordPress it provides you some default themes. these themes are great in terms of WordPress blogs. But lots of people don’t use these types of themes because they need advanced theme functionality.

It’s good, you can search and install other good looking theme but make sure you delete all the themes which you are not using in your WordPress website. basically, it put extra loads on your server.

for this just go to Appearance >> Themes, and delete all themes which you don’t need further.
